Raising CTA fares substantially for riders who pay with cash,
boosting rush-hour fares and charging different fares on buses
and trains are all being looked at, in addition to unprecedented
service cuts, transit agency officials said Wednesday.

up to keep the Chicago Transit Authority afloat if state lawmakers
fail to increase the subsidy for mass transit during the spring
legislative session, top officials told the agency's board.
