去掉頭等艙,改推豪華經濟艙.
看起來長榮要被修理了.

Cathay Pacific drops first, adds premium economy to 777s
August 21, 2011 – 8:26 am, by Ben Sandilands Cathay Pacific’s changes to
at least part of its 777-300ER fleet are another indication of how ‘tough’
things are getting for the privileged executives that fly at the premium end
of air travel.
Aspire Aviation draws our attention to this item on Airliner Routes, which
trawls the booking engines looking for the things airlines haven’t yet
announced, and finds that CX’s much anticipated premium economy product has
been loaded for flights between Hong Kong and Toronto from March 2.
Premium economy is where the company puts you when it decides to cut travel
costs. It is also where a few economy class passengers go when they can’t
tolerate economy class ‘privations’ any more, but hesitate to pay four
times the fare to trade up into business class.
The Cathay Pacific changes to this service, which are expected to flow
through to the rest of its fleet, show that first class has been dropped,
business class reduced, and a 32 seats premium economy cabin has been
inserted, comprising four rows of seats arranged two by four by two, over the
middle of the wing, which is, unfortunately, where the 777 cabin ambience
starts deteriorating into a racket that sounds like a galvanised iron chicken
shed approaching mach 1.
The good news for the broader market however, and I mean physically broader,
is that Cathay Pacific has also kept economy class at nine across not the
horrible ten across seating that is spreading rapidly through most of those
carriers that operate 777s.
What the Hong Kong carrier has done is similar to the changes Qantas is
making to its A380s, in which business class, according to the last official
update, is being cut back from 72 seats to 54 seats in order to double
premium economy on the upper deck to close to 60 seats.
Premium economy’s rise can be seen as the fall of the corporate account
support level for ‘luxury’ business class. Unfortunately in many carriers
this also means that the discount economy cabins are made denser and tighter
with more seats being reduced in width and legroom, which apart from
honourable exceptions like Cathay Pacific and United, means going in 777s,
from nine across to ten across seating, which results in torture tubes just
like the eight across seating in an A330/A340.
Cathay Pacific’s hard headed decisions about what corporate customers will
actually pay for occur in the context of serving what is claimed to be the
home of the world’s largest capital raising market. So get over it, just
about every airline is going to adopt, or continue to make, similar
adjustments to your travelling comfort.
It should be obvious where this is headed.
The convergence of in-flight broadband connectivity with the savings offered
by premium economy compared to business class will encourage many businesses
to work their executives in the air as hard as they do on the ground.
