[問題] 公司購買個人保險policy?

我只來美國兩年
對美國保險的事情不太瞭解
現在正在學稅法
其中有一題跟保險有關：
Tom owned a term life insurance policy at the time he was diagnosed as having
a terminal illness. After paying $5,200 in primiums, he sold the policy to
Amber Benefits, Inc., a company that is authorized by the State of Virginia
to purchase such policies. Amber paid Tom $50,000. When Tom died six months
later, Amber collected the face amount of the policy, $75,000.............

不過我的重點是我不懂為什麼會有公司是負責購買個人的保險policy
原因是什麼？ 有什麼benefit？
個人會賣掉自己的insurance policy是什麼原因？
台灣也有這種情形嗎？
