That is absolutely correct.
In Europe, most of the car drivers will give way to nearly everything;
pedestrians, cats, dogs, sheep, cows, deers, etc.
I used to stop by the street to wait for the coming car passed; and the
drivers used to stop to wait for me walking across the street.
Then I would smile and wave my hand to the driver and let them go first;
and so did they. This usually ended up both stopped and looked at each other.
However, we were happy because we both were respected, by the others and by
ourselves. Walking was a sort of fun.
In Taipei, even the traffic light is green for pedestrians, there can still be
cars or motocycles running across pedestrian lanes. They can even keep
their speed fast enough to threat the pedestrians' safety.
Being a pedestrian, I don't really like a car or motocycle passing behind me
or in the front of me in that situation.
Who said Taiwan was 'a country of human right'?
Do you believe that?
When I saw the buses' entry (no bus got friendly entry for baby carts and
wheelchair users), I cannot recognise I am in a developed country.
