The first small group of travelers under the program is scheduled to arrive Wednesday afternoon, from Taiwan, according to the Guam Visitors Bureau. “There have been bookings through the hotels, and inquiries as well through (Guam Visitors Bureau), (Japan Guam Travel Association), GHRA, and the chamber of commerce," said GHRA President Mary Rhodes. The program, which encourages people to travel to Guam to get vaccinated, is part of an effort by the GVB to jumpstart the island’s tourism industry. The Air V&V program requires participants to pay for their quarantine hotel stay, up to a week, during which they will receive a vaccine shot on the second day. Depending on which vaccine they choose, visitors could be on island for as little as three days, or more than a month. If they test negative at the end of their hotel quarantine, they would be allowed to leave their hotel room and enjoy the island, just like any other traveler. "The first group of travelers taking advantage of the program arrive (June 23rd) from Taiwan on a Starlux Airlines charter flight," said GVB spokesman Josh Tyquiengco. "It’s a small group of three people, but it’s a prelude of bigger groups to come." According to the program’s operating procedures, hotels are responsible for working with the Japan Guam Travel Association to manage the transfer of U.S. expats and tourists to the hotels. Visitors under the program will be quarantined on specific floors in the government quarantine hotel, the procedures state, and will be instructed not to leave the room. Visitors must pay for their meals – three per day – which will be left outside their door while in quarantine. American Medical Center and Guam Regional Medical City will provide all vaccine shots and COVID-19 testing under the program.
