ADPI wins contract to redevelop the runways at Taïwan Taoyuan international
airport
ADPI (Aéroports de Paris Ingénierie), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Aé
roports de Paris group, has won a contract, in partnership with the Taiwanese
design and engineering office Sinotech, to redevelop the runways at Taïwan
Taoyuan international airport, the main airport on the island of Taiwan,
located near to Taipei. The hub of Taiwanese airlines, China Airlines and
EVAAir, it is the 16th-busiest airport in the world with 27 million
passengers handled in 2012 and a steady increase in traffic in recent years.
ADPI will complete the studies and detailed design for the renovation work to
be carried out on the two existing runways and associated taxiways. Its teams
will also work on establishing an additional quick exit lane and extra
parking areas, as well as extending the south runway
100 metres west and 350 metres east (to reach 3,800 metres). Following the
expansion and redevelopment work, this runway will be able to accommodate
wide-body aircraft such as the
Airbus A380.
The total cost of this redevelopment, which should be concluded in 2015, is
an estimated 6 billion Taiwanese dollars (150 million euros).
The renovation to access lanes and runways is a complex and necessary
operation e.g. replacing hard coatings and reviewing the markings and
drainage ditches for rainwater, etc. And it must be carried out with as
little disruption as possible to air traffic.
ADPI gained significant experience in this field during the restoration of
the runways at Djeddah (Saudi Arabia), Saint Denis (Réunion) and Huahine
(French Polynesia) airports.
According to Guillaume Sauvé, CEO of ADPI:
"This success is testament to the expertise of ADPI in airport design and
engineering. It marks a new stage of our development in Asia following our
success in the call for tender for the extension of the Chongqing airport and
the new terminal of the Haikou Meilan airport in the People's Republic of
China."
